At 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday June 6, 1944, more than 170,000 Allied soldiers landed on the beaches of Normandy in an assault that would lead to the liberation of France from German occupation and eventually to the end of WWII. Today the site is a place of reflection and remembrance dedicated to those who perished on that fateful day.
