An important site dedicated to the memory and history of the French army since the mid-17th century, the Hôtel des Invalides remains a place where French soldiers and officers find refuge after battle. Built between 1670 and 1679 under Louis XIV, the Invalides includes the Église du Dôme, built in 1708, which under Napoleon Bonaparte became a military burial site. Napoleon himself, who died in exile in 1821, was entombed there in 1840. Since 1905, the Invalides also houses the Musée de l’Armée (Army Museum).

Opening hours :

Open daily except for the first Monday of every month (apart from July, August and September) when only the Dome, the Cathédrale Saint-Louis des Invalides, and artillery portion is open
Closed January 1, May 1 and December 25
From November 1 to March 31: Monday through Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (to 5:30 p.m. during summer vacation and national Spring holiday)
From April 1 to October 31: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tuesday evenings until 9 p.m. from April to September
The Dome is open until 7 p.m. in July and August
