The history of the Jewish community in Paris and the fulfilment of its culture are both rich and complex. From the Middle Ages onwards their presence is proven but they will be successively chased away and called back along the disturbance of History. Thanks to the French Revolution, Jews acquired citizenship. After that followed an influx, mostly of Eastern Europe Ashkenazi populations until the Second World War inflicted them a terrible ordeal. This guided tour is a stroll within the heart of the Jewish presence in the Marais that was once named the « Pletzl », little square in Yiddish. You will discover the Jewish culture, its rituals and traditions, its Sephardic and Ashkenazi influenced cuisine. Your steps will lead you to historical places too like Parvis des 260 enfants (site of a Jewish public school where 260 children were removed during the Vel d’Hiv roundup), the Shoah Memorial, and the moving Wall of the Righteous.
