“Our Lady of Paris” cathedral – whose construction, beginning in 1163, spanned two centuries and witnessed numerous architects – is said to be the finest example of French gothic architecture ever built, and the most famous cathedral in the world, due in large part to its immortalization in legend and literature. It stands proudly on the relatively small Île de la Cité in the heart of Paris, and visitors flock to admire its gargoyles, flying buttresses, great bell, and beautifully carved doors, as well as the stunning view over Paris from the towers.
