Trianon and Queens hamlet tour

  • A strong taste for architecture : in order to serve their interest for constructions, Louis XIV commissioned Le Grand Trianon, influenced by Italian architecture and Louis XV had Le Petit Trianon built, a « Greek-inspired » example
  • Trianons, the Ladies’s estate : Marie Leczinska, Mme de Pompadour, Mme Du Barry, Marie-Louise, Pauline Bonaparte, they loved these places and left a mark of their presence
  • Le Petit Trianon : closely linked to Queen Marie Antoinette’s stays and private life
  • The Queen’s Hamlet : Norman looking village entirely created for the last queen of Versailles’s strolls, receptions and entertainments

Both Grand and Petit Trianon were built for the kings to keep away from the pomp of the court and its corseted obligations. These charming structures surrounded by gardens reflect easy living. Louis XIV could tolerate there something unacceptable in Versailles.
King Louis XVI offered le Petit Trianon to his spouse Marie Antoinette who converted it into her getaway residence and added the hamlet to train her kids on peasant life. Follow your licensed guide.

Like the kings and queens of Versailles, come and enjoy a quiet moment in the Trianon estate. After visiting the Grand Trianon which reminds us of the presence of Napoleon I through the Empire style furniture it boasts, follow your tour guide in Marie-Antoinette’s universe in Petit Trianon, the winding paths of its English style gardens and the idealised peasant looking life around the lake of the Queen’s hamlet.
